Utah Perinatal OCD and Anxiety Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Perinatal OCD & Anxiety Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers structured, evidence-based care for mothers and parents navigating obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety during pregnancy and the postpartum period. With locations in Draper, Utah and Provo, Utah, our program is designed to meet families where they are, providing specialized support during one of life’s most vulnerable and transformative seasons.

This program was built specifically for the perinatal period, recognizing that OCD and anxiety often look different during pregnancy and early parenthood. For many parents, symptoms extend far beyond worries about baby and may include fears about health, safety, responsibility, identity, relationships, or being “good enough.” We focus not only on symptom reduction, but on helping clients reconnect with who they are, how they want to show up in their families, and how to live meaningful, values-driven lives alongside uncertainty.

All programming is facilitated by licensed therapists with specialized, tailored training in perinatal mental health and OCD.

A Specialized Approach to Perinatal OCD & Anxiety

Our Perinatal OCD & Anxiety IOP integrates two gold-standard, evidence-based approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

ACT helps clients build psychological flexibility, develop self-compassion, and learn how to respond differently to intrusive thoughts and intense emotions rather than getting pulled into cycles of avoidance or overcontrol. ERP provides structured, supportive opportunities to gradually face fears while reducing compulsive behaviors, reassurance seeking, and mental checking. Together, these approaches teach clients how to step out of fear-driven loops and move toward what matters most.

Rather than chasing certainty or trying to eliminate uncomfortable thoughts, clients learn how to tolerate uncertainty, disengage from compulsions, and take committed action aligned with their values. This foundation supports long-term recovery and resilience well beyond the perinatal period.

Group Programming

Clients attend in-person group programming several days per week, along with a weekly virtual group that reinforces learning and skill development.

All in-person group sessions (Monday through Thursday), including partner group, include free onsite childcare. We recognize that access to childcare is often one of the biggest barriers to treatment during this season of life, and we strive to remove that obstacle whenever possible.

Each group begins with skills-based psychoeducation drawn from ACT. Clients learn practical tools for responding differently to intrusive thoughts, managing emotional distress, and reducing the urge to seek certainty or reassurance. Topics often include mindfulness, values clarification, emotional regulation, and how anxiety and OCD impact identity, parenting, and relationships.

The second portion of group focuses on committed action. During this time, clients actively practice these skills through experiential exercises and carefully planned ERP. This hands-on approach allows participants to apply what they are learning in real time, building confidence, insight, and momentum toward recovery. Over time, clients begin to feel more capable of navigating daily life, parenting challenges, and relational stressors without being driven by fear.

Partner Support

Healing does not happen in isolation, especially in the perinatal period. That is why our program includes weekly partner groups.

These sessions are designed to teach loved ones the same skills clients are learning, answer questions about OCD and anxiety, and provide partners with their own space for support. Partner groups also emphasize communication, boundaries, and collaboration, helping families develop a shared language around recovery. By involving partners in the treatment process, we aim to strengthen relationships and create a more supportive home environment throughout care.

Individual Therapy

In addition to group programming, each client receives a weekly individual therapy session tailored to their unique symptoms, goals, and values.

These sessions allow for personalized exposure planning, deeper skill development, and ongoing support. Individual therapy provides space to address specific fears, refine ERP hierarchies, explore identity shifts that often occur during parenthood, and troubleshoot barriers to progress. This combination of group and individual care ensures that each client receives both community support and individualized attention.

A Program Designed for Mothers and Families

Our Perinatal OCD & Anxiety Intensive Outpatient Program is built around the understanding that recovery is not just about reducing symptoms. It is about helping parents feel more grounded in themselves, more connected in their relationships, and more empowered in their daily lives.

We recognize the unique pressures of pregnancy and early parenthood, including hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, shifting identities, and increased responsibility. Our program integrates education, experiential practice, partner involvement, and individualized care to support healing on multiple levels.

Clients leave with practical tools, increased confidence, and a clearer sense of how to move forward even when uncertainty is present.
