Members of our community have expressed a deep concern sparked by the devastating story in the Northeast. We do not wish to comment on this story as we do not have the details and anything being reported currently in the media is subject to bias. A great deal of these stories have misused language especially as it relates to the condition of Postpartum Psychosis. Outlets have not accurately described the condition and have even confused it with other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Language matters. We wanted to offer a personal and very real perspective on this subject. We also wanted to provide clear information on not only postpartum psychosis but other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders as well.

For this reason, we have interviewed a Postpartum Psychosis survivor, yoga teacher, mother, and therapist- Gaby Beaujeu along with her husband former Marine and now esteemed business leader Brandon. Together they describe their experience with Gaby’s illness and the experiences that have shaped their lives both personally and professionally. This interview is one that will leave you with hope, clarity, and profound empathy for your fellow parents. Lyndsey Proctor, Serenity’s Founder and Clinical director along with Morgan Slade, guide this interview and ask questions submitted by the Serenity Community.

A couple of things to note:
We want everyone to have accurate information and education concerning PMADs. For this purpose, we will be releasing a follow-up blog post to this interview describing the key characteristics and symptoms of each respective perinatal mood and anxiety disorder. We also want listeners and readers to be aware that this interview is based on a personal experience and that the symptoms being described are not to be compared to any one individual or experience. If you believe that your loved one may be experiencing symptoms that alarm you or if you yourself are not feeling like yourself after having a baby, please reach out to a maternal mental health or psychiatric professional.

Serenity’s services include both general outpatient care and intensive outpatient care. To learn more about our services and what we can offer for you or your loved one please contact us at 801-984-0184 or frontdesk@serenityrw.com
